American Idol
Top 13 Results

Original Air Date: Mar 1, 2012

I have to admit, I wondered how Idol would fill two hours with the results from the Top 25. Lots and lots of filler, right? Not so much.

The brisk pace of the show kept things moving with no need for guest singers or video backstories. We did get a snip of each contestant’s performance, the judges’ comments and extra comment from vocal coach and Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine.

Jimmy has kind of taken over for Simon and is truthful to being almost nasty. But he usually is right, or at least he was tonight.

So after 33 million votes over two nights, who did America and then the judges choose?

TOP TEN (as voted by viewers)
Phil Phillips
Joshua Ledet
Heejun Han
Colton Dixon
Jermaine Jones
Jessica Sanchez
Hollie Cavanagh
Shannon Magrane
Skylar Laine
Elise Testone

Erika Van Pelt
Jeremy Rosado
Deandre Brackensick

Chase Likens
Brielle Van Hugel (sang unsuccessfully for wild card selection)
Hallie Day
Adam Brock
Baylie Brown
Chelsea Sorrell
Aaron Marcellus
Creighton Fraker
Reed Grimm (sang unsuccessfully for wild card selection)
Jen Hirsh (sang unsuccessfully for wild card selection)
Haley Johnsen
Eben Franckewitz

I have only one big quibble and that’s Jermaine Jones. He’s got great tone, but limited control and pitch problems. I think he made it because he performed last. I really expected Eben or Adam to be chosen (the girls screamed very loud for Eben).

But overall, I think at least 10 of those contestants are excellent, which means we can look forward to a great rest of the season!

One side note: Jimmy surprised me by openly questioning the rules of the Idol Machine. He said he’d love Eben to return, but since he’s gone so far, the kid can’t. Jimmy said that rule needs to be changed. I totally agree.

Did you have any great disappointments? Are you happy Jermaine got in? Do you think the rules should be changed? Give us your TwoCents…
