Actor Edward Herrmann has passed away in New York City after a battle with brain cancer, according to TMZ. He was 71.
Herrmann’s career spans television, film, and theater, and included his portrayal of Franklin D. Roosevelt in TV movies Eleanor and Franklin and Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years in the late 70s (a role he reprised in the original film version of Annie), Oz, an Emmy-nominated guest role on St. Elsewhere, and Emmy-winning performance on The Practice.
His last television role was as Lionel Deerfield on The Good Wife. Of course, younger fans may have gotten to know him as Gilmore Girls patriarch, Richard Gilmore.
Herrmann’s film credits include Paper Chase, Richie Rich, and The Lost Boys.
Rest in Peace Mr. Herrmann. You will be missed.
