Farewell…Sid Caesar

Sid Caesar, Comedian/Actor

The man behind the clever comedy on “Your Show of Shows” and “Caesar’s Hour” helped define the 1950s “Golden Age of Television,” has died. Sid Caesar was 91.

Caesar was only 27 when he launched Your Show of Shows in 1950. TV’s first and greatest live comedy lasted four years followed in 1954 by Caesar’s Hour, another live and funny show. Both shows featured future comedy writer heavyweights such as Carl Reiner, Neil Simon, and Mel Brooks.

In his post variety show live, Caeser appeared on The Love Boat, hosted Saturday Night Live in 1983 and appeared on a 1997 episode of Mad About You.

Rest in Peace Sid!
