The season of MasterChef Junior concluded tonight with the final two young chefs, Nathan (age 12) and Andrew (age 11), competing to win the title of MasterChef Junior. Andrew and Nathan answered a few questions for TwoCentsTV.com before the finale aired.
TwoCentsTV:What kinds of cuisine do you really enjoy cooking? What’s your least favorite, or the one you feel least comfortable with?
Nathan: I really like cooking French and Japanese food, maybe Italian every once ina while. I’m not comfortable at all with Thai food, it’s so difficult to layer up so many flavors in one dish!
Andrew: My favorite cuisine to cook is Italian American comfort foods and European dishes. My least favorite would be Spanish cuisine because I don’t usually cook Spanish dishes. I do know how to make tacos.
TCTV: Describe your favorite meal to cook.
Andrew: Since MasterChef Junior, my favorite meal to cook is homemade pasta, meatballs, and gravy (sauce).
Nathan: My favorite meal to cook is Tokyo-style ramen consisting of a chicken dashi broth, flavored with soy, and topped with sautéed spinach, pork belly, narutomaki (fish cake), green onion, hard-boiled egg, and some nori.
TCTV: What’s the most interesting thing you learned in the MasterChef kitchen?
Nathan: In the MasterChef kitchen, I learned how to think off of the top of my head, as well as some pretty decent knife skills (which I’m still working on!).
Andrew: The most interesting thing I learned in the MasterChef kitchen is, if you cook in their kitchen like your own kitchen, you won’t have any problems. The MasterChef kitchen is much bigger and has all the appliances you need, but if you are confident nothing will stand in your way.
TCTV:Did you make friends among the other young contestants?
Andrew: Yes, I made friends with all of the contestants and we still keep in touch.
Nathan: Absolutely! Everybody there was my friend, and we all hung out a lot! It’s kind of hard to no like someone when they share so many of the same interests as you do!
TCTV: Is there any advice you have for other aspiring young chefs out there?
Nathan: If you want to be a chef, start out small with really basic recipes and work your way up to the more complicated stuff. I tried making a really complicated recipe once when I first started out cooking and trust me, it wasn’t like the picture.
Andrew: The advice I would have for other aspiring chefs out there si don’t be afraid to try new things in the kitchen and don’t let anyone stand in your way.
TCTV:BONUS QUESTION: List the 5 TV Shows you’d show someone who has NEVER seen TV before.
Andrew: MasterChef, MasterChef Junior, Hell’s Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, and SpongeBob.
Nathan: Oh this is a tough one… just kidding! MasterChef Junior (duh!), Who’s Line is it Anyway?, anything on Animal Planet, Steven Universe (I don’t know why but I really love this show), and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (there’s always a place in my heart for the classics).
So, what did you think of the winner of this season of MasterChef Junior?
